Old Architecture & New Architecture
In history, architecture was started from building for deity purpose. During the ancient Egytian era, pyramid was built to store the mummy of the pharoah. The ancient egyptian using their construction knowledge to built up the iconic triangular pyramid with the rocks. It is easily to know that a lot of the large scale architecture or building was mainly function and serve for the emperor in the ancient period.
Furthermore, the status and personality of the god had become much more important during the ancient Greek. The mythicism and the tales of the legendia had become the main stream of the community. For example, Acropolis of Athens is an ancient citadel located on a high rocky outcrop above the city of Athens and contains the remains of several ancient buildingsof great architectural and historic significance. The community of the athens like housing and the publc space, bazaar was surrounded the temple. The people of the Atens think about that the gods is the whole of their life. The gods will protect them if they do the worship. So they focus on the building of the temple, which made them get the achievement of the architecture on the deity architecture. The most significant elements of the ancient greek temple was the design of the column. The doric, ionic and corinthian was usedfor different temple, which mean the people of Athens put more effort on doing the deity architecture instead of building their own house.
In Gothic era, the architecture was mainly focus on religion. The church design was extremely luxurious and large scale.The design of church was very tall and out of the human scale for human to feel the nobility of the god. A lot of the ornaments and elements was included with the design of the church which make the church become gigantic and beautiful.
From the old architecture that we knew nowsaday, they are much more function for people to have worship and pray. The architecture at the old period without really think about the function of the humanity. The architecture was not exist for the human but the religious.
However, nowsaday we are facing a lot of the social issues, like the overpopulation, traffic congestion and famine. Architecture nowswaday is much more concern about the solving the current problem which could made the world become bvetter. Compare to the old architecture, new architecture is much more practicability to serve the human and solving the social issue.
There is some of the organization and society who leading some of the meaningful project which is helping the people who is in struggle and difficulty. Architecture for Humanity (AFH), the San Francisco–based non-profit organization behind a federation of chapters focusing on humanitarian and disaster relief architecture.
The Homeless World Cup is an annual event, in which teams composed by homeless people from all over the world meet for a Football World Cup. In 2010 the tournament took place in Rio de Janeiro. For the first time, the organizing committee decided to build a Legacy Center, whose objective is to create continuity of the work with sport as a mean for social change.
The charitable organization, which has its headquarters in San Francisco, set up offices inPort-au-Prince in March 2010 in order to better help the people of Haiti after the 2010 earthquake. Through almost five years in Haiti, they have completed nearly 50 projects, including homes, medical clinics, offices, and the 13 buildings in their Haiti School Initiative. Their work has positively affected the lives of over 1 million Haitians, with their schools initiative alone providing education spaces for over 18,000 students.
Architecture nowsaday should be able to coonect with the international issues and problem which really related to the human. Architecture is not just a media to show the power, the status of somethings, but is the way to solve the problem and make our live become better.
