Life long lessons
what have you learnt this semester (in theories) that has changed your perspective?
It was a great experiences taking theory class this semester. It’s very sightful and widen my horizon in viewing things. The contents were interesting and fun as well. It’s not your usual history class. Design is not only about creating beautiful buildings or just the Bilbao effects follow along. Most of the times, what value the building is the thinking behind while creating these building, the theories, that simple thoughts at that moments, and sparks of collision of ideas. There’s a few specific things that I learnt in this class which I think does benefits not only for my careers but perspective towards life.
The very first thing is, inspirations came from anywhere, anytime, especially in those little moments in life. It can be when you saw a uncle having his breakfast in a kopitiam, birds flying across trees or just simply your silent moments sitting in your balcony. Furthermore than life, channel such as movies, books, poems, are sources to enrich your design perspective. It’s important for us, to constant learning to enrich our souls and not just absorbing knowledge like a machine.
Human beings are creators. We might not superior in term of strengths or agile compare to animals, but thats why we create tools to assist us. We human create all sort of things, from objects, architectures, writings, and more. With the evolvement of technologies, movies were invented. Movies were the greatest creation of this generation. The way movies communicating stories with peoples are just so impactful. As what we have learnt in class, we all create things that tells a specific things, could be to communicate specific ideas or just came out of necessarily, and architecture and movies are just one of two ways that we communicate with other human beings. We should always be very observative in every particular things in our daily life.
Leaning is the constant evolving process of human being. I’m very glad to learn that there’s actually a lot of public activities that is related to design and architecture at the outside world. It does expand my sources of inspiration when comes to designs or creating things. It’s a important lessons we all never understand that is, learning doesn’t ended in class.
Theories class is definitely an important lessons for designers. It’s like a design ethic class and a little bit of retrospective toward architecture history. I’m so much benefited from this class. Thank you Ms sue for putting up all the contents of this class, it’s a wonderful learning experiences.
