Design Inspiration

When coming to design , the question that came out every time when we start our design projects and been asked quite often by the lecturer is : ' What is your inspiration ? '

For this semester , studio 4 , we been noticed that our final design project will be design a Story Museum based on a exiting building. This exiting building is located at Sungai Buloh Leprosy Settlement.

Dewan Orang Ramai , Sungai Buloh Settlement

At first glance Sungai Buloh may seem unassuming, quiet, boring even, an area within the Klang Valley with greenery. But visitors to Sungai Buloh are in for a surprise when they learn of its colourful past.

The Sungai Buloh Settlement is the second largest leprosarium in the world. The settlement is situated 25.6 km from Kuala Lumpur. It was officially opened on 16th August, 1930. The transfer of non-opium smoking patients from the Leper Asylum in Kuala Lumpur (off Circular Road) to Sungai Buloh Settlement was completed on 25th August, 1930. Administration of the Leper Settlement and Decrepit Settlement was in the charge of the one and same Medical Superintendent.

At the first time going to the site , we visited the exiting building that we are going to turn it into a story museum .

After noticed the unique facade of the building , first thing that came into my mind was those small cubical elements on the wall somehow shows that every individual patient that was suffered at this settlement , and they were looking for a hope that can end up their poor life .

Therefore , my inspiration for the story museum is using these particular unique cubical element to show the pass of those leprocy patient suffered and let the visitor to experience it .

So , below are my sketches for my inspiration for this , story museum.
