Tucheng Community Sport Center, by Sense Tseng and Borden Tseng

Tucheng Sport Center is built at Tucheng District, New Taipei City on 2014. It is designed by Sense Tseng and Borden Tseng, they are the founder of Q-Lab in 2007, as a critical investigation of architecture in the context of metropolis, intensely over-populated urban conditions, and other cultural niches that define contemporary society. Government decided to build the sport center to encourage their people can do more exercise better than stay at home with video games.

Tucheng community sport center is composed of three interlocking volume of blocks that stack on top of each other. Each of the blocks contain different colour to represent different activities inside. Red block is the basketball courts, grey block is the ice hockey rink which cantilever 9 meter out from the blue block, swimming pool. This composition create a continuous walkway beneath for semi-outdoor activities such as casual strolling, rock climbing and street dance.

Besides that, the array of gradient colours that composed on the exterior which reflects the analysis of heat gain or loss. As using the lighter colour panels for the most heat gain area and darker colour for the least gain area.

Tucheng Sport Center embrace both vertical and horizontal design. It explores the opportunity of engaging visitors with difference height in building section and brings people together with open floor plan layout. It is a building with delightful surprises at every turn of the corner as well as on every change levels.

Since the sport center is near to the city area, it attracts many parents bring their children come to have fun during their family day. Furthermore, the design of sport center considers both of teenagers and kids, so it don’t have any age limit. Even the swimming pools part, they provided one standard Olympic size swimming pool for adult, and three small swimming pools for kids. By the way, the sport center is encourage and motivate people to keep their body fit and healthy since there has provided many advance equipment and services. It make people don’t have any excuse to reject exercise.

The sport center is operating every day, which means it doesn’t have any off day, so people no worry about it doesn’t open and just go for it. There also has provided one activity that make every Taiwanese crazy about it which is the only ice-skating court in Taiwan. However, the entrance fee for every activities not more than 200 Taiwan dollar, and kids below 4 year-old is free entrance. Besides those normal activities, they also provided airsoft gun for those guys who like shooting and SPA for ladies. Management also provided some courses like yoga, zumba, ballet and so on, to those who interesting and want to learn.

At last, I will say the community sport center is working as well, it gathers all the people go to there, for doing exercise or having fun together. In another way, it also rises the awareness for people to take care their heath since everyone are just rushing their works.
