Electrification Takes Cammands

Bart Lootsma is a historian, critic, and curator in the fields of architecture, design, and fine arts. He holds the chair for architectural theory at the Leopold-Franzens University of Innsbruck and is also professor at the Institute for History, Theory and Critic in Architecture at the Academy of Applied Arts in Vienna.

It was an interesting topic which was given by him. The topic covered very board about the society, human community and human lifestyle. It was an eye-opening lecture which gave me a great impact of looking back what architecture could be around this world. He also show the impact of electrification in architecture. The technology nowsaday could really archieved differant form of architecture. Zaha Hadid is one of the famous architect who create the architecture in interesting form which lead a trend in architecture world.

In this talk, he show various of examples and attempt which could changed the experienced of life and our living environment. Besides, he also introduce the Haus-Rucker-Co.Haus-Rucker-Co were a Viennese group founded in 1967 by Laurids Ortner, Günther Zamp Kelp and Klaus PinterTheir work explored the performative potential of architecture through installations and happenings using pneumatic structures or prosthetic devices that altered perceptions of space.

Furthermore, the part of the lecture which is the most significant is so called 'invented tradition'. The development of technologies had made our life become different from the past. .The social media which we use everyday had successfully controlled our daily lifestyle. Most of us is very rely on the use and benefits of the social media. The information technology nowsaday has made our behaviour become different from the past. As a designer, we should be sensitive and able to understand what’s the impact and affect which are cause by these technologies.

At the lasrt part of his whole lecture, he take an examples that skiing is a sport that’s makes people get the chances to expose to nature. However skiing is not a natural activities. If we are not able to have a proper life style, we will not have any excessive demand. The demand of the people urge the development and advanced of the technologies. The invention of the social media and multimedia provide the opportunities and potential to transform to a better situation. The example which was given by Bart Lootsma had showed that the social media had successfully changed or transformed a small village where located surrounded by the moutains into a skiing resorts city. The power of social media acts as a media to spread the unusual information or news around the world. People may know the skiing activities and interested them to come to try through the social media so that the resort city could run properly and well. Moreover, the social mediagradually explore the demand of the accommodation for the skiing activities. So that, the small village could be revived, become a resort city. The culture of thevillage could be explored by the visitor too on this way.

Some of the skiing facilities was created and designed for the audience to watch and enjoy easily, so that they do not really have to reach the hill top for enjoying the experienced. The facilities was provided base on the demands of the people.

In Malaysia it works the same with all places with touristic value, Genting Highland and Cameron Highlands is a good example that how a normal village or place could be transformed to a famous tourist spot due to their special weather and special activities.

The talk which was given by Bart Lootsma was totally unexpected and incredibly widen my horizon about the architecture. The researh what was did by him is about the relationship between human and human. We should take the advantages of using the knowledge of the technology and elctricfication for having a better lifestyle.
